Quick answers about German environmental stickers

Search our most common questions about ordering, vehicle documents, sticker classification, low-emission zones, shipping and the blue E-sticker. The smart search also suggests relevant pages and products.

I completed an online registration (iKfz) and do not yet have the new registration document. What do you need?

Please upload the official decision from the registration authority in full. It must show in particular the already assigned registration number, VIN and date of first registration. If the online decision does not contain all technical data needed for classification, we also need the previous registration document. For a new vehicle without a previous document, please provide the COC papers instead.

My vehicle is Euro 5 or Euro 6. Why does the green sticker still show the number 4?

The number 4 refers to pollutant group 4 under the environmental-sticker rules, not to the Euro emissions class. Green equals pollutant group 4, so Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles also display a 4 on the green sticker.

Is there a blue environmental-zone sticker, or does “blue sticker” mean the blue E-sticker?

For low-emission zones, German law provides red, yellow and green environmental stickers. A blue environmental-zone sticker is not part of this system. The blue E-sticker is a separate legally regulated marking for eligible electrically powered vehicles registered outside Germany.

Do I really need to send vehicle documents and how can I upload them?

Yes. We must review the relevant vehicle data for correct classification. The easiest way is to upload the registration certificate or equivalent foreign document directly during the order. Our ordering-process page explains the required documents step by step.

Which sticker colour does my vehicle receive?

The colour follows the statutory pollutant group and cannot be chosen freely. Use our classification page or the environmental-sticker assistant for quick guidance. If necessary, we review the actual vehicle documents.

Why do stickers for foreign-registered vehicles cost a little more?

Foreign registration documents vary by country in layout, terminology and evidence, so determining the correct pollutant group is often more time-consuming. The additional review effort is reflected in the price.

Where is my environmental sticker?

First check your shipping confirmation and delivery address. If the confirmation is more than about one week old for Germany or about 14 days for international shipping, please contact us so we can review the case.

Are your environmental stickers officially recognised and valid throughout Germany?

Yes. The environmental sticker is a legally regulated marking and is generally valid in all German low-emission zones where the local signs permit the respective pollutant group. We operate as an authorised issuing body. Our authorisation number is BY-5-05-0583-63.

Where should I attach the green environmental sticker?

The sticker must be clearly visible on the inside of the windscreen. In practice, we recommend the lower right area from the driver’s perspective, provided it does not obstruct visibility.

There is still a sticker with the previous owner’s registration number on the vehicle. Do I need a new one?

Yes. The environmental sticker is marked with the vehicle’s registration number. After a registration-number change, you therefore need a sticker with the currently assigned number.

My sticker has faded or is no longer clearly legible. Do I need a new one?

The sticker and especially the registration number must remain clearly legible for checks. If the marking can no longer be reliably read, we recommend replacing it.

What should I consider when applying the sticker?

Clean and dry the inside of the windscreen thoroughly. The glass should not be ice-cold; in winter, applying it after a drive is helpful. The sticker is non-reusable and is designed to destroy itself when removed, so align it carefully before pressing it on.

Can I choose the sticker colour myself?

No. The colour is assigned solely according to the legal criteria and the vehicle data.

I reserved a personalised registration number. Can I order the sticker before registration?

No. We can only issue stickers for a registration number that has already been officially assigned to the vehicle. A reservation or planned number is not sufficient.

Can I buy a blank environmental sticker?

No, we do not sell blank stickers to end customers. Workshops with the appropriate emissions-test authorisation can contact us about business solutions.

Where are low-emission zones in Germany?

Our “German low-emission zones” page shows the active zones currently stored in our system on an interactive map. Current local signage and official rules always remain decisive.

I have a fleet or regularly need larger quantities. Are discounts or B2B solutions available?

Yes. Quantity tiers and individual offers are available. For recurring demand, we also offer B2B solutions including white-label processes and technical interfaces. See our B2B page for details.

How is my environmental sticker shipped?

Standard delivery by letter within Germany is free. Depending on destination and cart, additional paid shipping methods may be offered at checkout. International options and prices are also shown there.

How can I pay for my order?

The payment methods currently available are shown directly at checkout. This keeps the information accurate even if individual payment services change.

Can I collect my order?

Yes. Collection is possible during our regular opening hours. Please order in advance where possible and allow some lead time for review and production. Regular opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 18:00.

My vehicle is registered abroad. Can I still order a sticker, and do you ship internationally?

Yes. Foreign-registered vehicles can receive a German environmental sticker if they meet the requirements. Please choose the relevant product and provide the vehicle documents. We ship internationally; available costs are shown at checkout.

Which vehicles generally do not need an environmental sticker in low-emission zones?

German law provides several exemptions, including two- and three-wheeled motor vehicles, mobile machinery, work machines, agricultural and forestry tractors, certain emergency and special-rights vehicles, vehicles of certain severely disabled persons, and certain historic vehicles. Additional local exemptions may exist.

What fine applies for entering a low-emission zone without a valid sticker?

The current standard fine is EUR 80. Procedural fees and expenses may be added. The current official fine schedule is decisive.

Does my electric car need a green environmental sticker?

Yes. To enter appropriately signposted German low-emission zones, electric vehicles generally also need the required environmental sticker unless a specific exemption applies. Foreign-registered EVs may additionally need or benefit from the blue E-sticker.

Do I always need a sticker, and does the rule also apply when I only park in a low-emission zone?

There is no general requirement outside low-emission zones. Inside an appropriately signposted zone, however, the required marking generally has to be present even if the vehicle is only parked there.

What applies to forged, manipulated or deliberately incorrect stickers?

Never forge, alter or knowingly use an environmental sticker with false information. Depending on the facts, traffic offences and criminal-law provisions such as document forgery can become relevant. We cannot accept manipulated vehicle documents or stickers.

I have a Dutch vehicle. Can I use the RDW check?

Yes. For many Dutch vehicles our assistant can retrieve vehicle data via RDW. This can make classification especially convenient. If the available data is insufficient, we additionally need a suitable registration document.

May I redact my address and personal data on the registration document?

Yes. Address and other personal data that are not required for vehicle verification may be redacted. All vehicle data relevant to classification, the registration number, vehicle identification and technical details must remain complete and clearly legible.

Can I buy stickers for several vehicles in one order?

Yes. Please make sure the registration numbers and vehicle documents can be clearly assigned to each vehicle. For larger quantities or recurring demand, our B2B offer may also be useful.

How quickly are review and dispatch carried out?

With complete documents and orders received by 15:00 Monday to Friday, review, production and dispatch usually take place on the same business day. Missing documents or follow-up questions can delay processing.

Which vehicles is the blue E-sticker for and where is it attached?

The blue E-sticker is intended for eligible electrically powered vehicles registered outside Germany. Certain plug-in hybrids may also qualify if the statutory requirements are met. The sticker is attached clearly visible at the rear of the vehicle.

Does a foreign electric car need both the green environmental sticker and the blue E-sticker?

The two stickers have different purposes. The green environmental sticker is relevant for access to appropriately signposted low-emission zones. The blue E-sticker identifies the EV status of eligible foreign vehicles. Depending on use, both markings can therefore be useful or required.

I am not sure which sticker I need. What is the quickest route?

Start the environmental-sticker assistant. You can check your vehicle or first check your destination and low-emission zones along your route. Difficult special cases can then be reviewed using the vehicle documents.

What happens if my uploaded document is blurred or incomplete?

If relevant information is missing or unreadable, we cannot classify the vehicle reliably. We then have to ask for a better photo or a complete scan. A clear upload speeds up processing significantly.

Note: These answers provide general guidance. Current legal requirements, local signs and the review of the actual vehicle documents remain decisive.
